TEAM
Windsor West holds a place of honour in the Federal Party for being able to consistently deliver Liberals to the House of Commons.
Over the years the riding has had a few name changes becoming the riding most would recognize today in 1924 when it was named Essex West.
It was renamed Windsor West in 1966.
Barrister Norman McLarty was the first Liberal to win Essex West taking it in the election of 1935.
He held it until 1945 when it was won by Lawyer Donald Brown who held it until 1958.
Four years later the riding was won by a very distinguished Liberal Herb Gray who brought considerable recognition to the riding.
He won 13 consecutive elections, starting in 1962, enough to earn the honour of being Canada's longest serving Member of Parliament.
A bust of Mr. Gray now graces the foot of Ouellette Avenue. Mr. Gray is also Canada's first Jewish cabinet minister.
He was appointed to the Cabinets of Lester Pearson and Pierre Trudeau.
During the transition between the leadership of John Turner and Jean Chretien he was the leader of the Opposition and later Deputy Prime Minister.
The current WWLA executive is a wonderful blend of age, gender and cultural background; a microcosm of what the Liberal Party is and represents.
Currently the executive is focused on fundraising, finding a candidate for the next election, and restructuring in the manner that the party wishes us to.
Feel free to contact any one of the executive below if you wish to volunteer, or contribute financially to the Liberal cause.
